ACEC’s BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management is tailored for emerging leaders in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector. This course blends contemporary leadership theory with practical application, preparing educators to take the next step in their careers by leading teams, managing operations, and supporting quality outcomes for children and families.

Delivered via distance learning, the program ensures graduates are confident, capable, and ready to step into leadership roles that may be used in long day care, preschool, family day care, and other Early Childhood settings. Students develop skills in communication, team leadership, conflict resolution, and compliance—aligned to the backdrop of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.

This qualification reflects the role of educators who lead others, contribute to service planning, and support a collaborative and high-performing workplace culture while remaining focused on the wellbeing, development, and inclusion of children.

Purpose

BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management provides Diploma-trained Early Childhood professionals with the leadership skills and knowledge to move into or enhance their roles in supervisory and team-leading positions within the children’s services sector. This qualification supports career progression for those looking to lead teams, manage operations, and contribute to continuous improvement in early childhood settings in roles such as:
• Lead Educator
• Educational Leader
• Team Leader in early learning environments
• Nominated Supervisor (in some services, depending on experience and regulatory requirements)
• Service Manager (small services or under supervision)

Upon successful completion of this qualification you may also wish to enrol in the BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management

Duration

12 months (nominal). The course is arranged into four clusters

Entry Requirements

There are no prerequisite requirements for entry into BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.

Qualification Requirements

To complete BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, students must undertake 12 units of competency, 5 of which must be Core units and 7 Elective units.

Assessment Requirements

Our courses have an emphasis on completing practical tasks and applying knowledge and examples from the actual workplace rather than theory-based learning. Assessment will be a mix of knowledge questions and practical scenarios, projects. There are two units that require workplace observation

Delivery Mode

Distance Learning. Cost for the course, inlcuding all learning materials is $3,600.

Materials or Equipment Required

Students require access to a computer with an Internet connection, and to have an email account. All assessments and information for this course are sent via secure online portal. If you do not have access to a computer with Internet, please contact the ACEC Helpdesk and they can assist you with other means of study and communication. Students will also need access to a printer/scanner; as well as Adobe Acrobat Reader software to enable distance learning.
