CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is the latest qualification and reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so you will work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. In the workplace, Diploma trained students are able to effectively develop the skills and knowledge of their peers. Diploma level studies also meet the minimum requirements for a director and children's service manager position.

Purpose

CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care gives students the relevant skills and knowledge to seek employment in the following children's services positions:
Nominated Supervisor
Family Day Care Educator
Childhood Educator
Group / Team Coordinator
Educational Leader
Approved Provider
Service Coordinator
Director

Duration

One year. The course is arranged into four, ten week clusters with breaks between clusters.

Entry Requirements

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:
• hold a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or
• CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Qualification Requirements

To complete CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, students must undertake 15 units of competency, 12 of which must be Core units and 3 Elective units.

Assessment Requirements

Our courses have an emphasis on completing practical tasks and applying knowledge and examples from the actual workplace rather than theory-based learning.

Students receive weekly tasks via email and submit these using their working week for reference.
Students will have access to, and are supported regularly by phone calls from their trainer, who is always available to answer any questions.

Students must undertake a minimum of 280 hours Work Experience/Placement in a regulated children's education and care service in Australia.
Students must work with children aged from birth to 6 years (Babies, toddlers and Pre-school Children).

Students will be required to keep a log book (provided by ACE) that will need to be signed by the supervisor at the site daily.
There will be liaison between the Trainer and Service Supervisor for workplace observation and sign off.
Students will be required to complete workplace projects in the service.

Materials or Equipment Required

Students require access to a computer with an internet connection, and to have an email account. All assessments and information for this course are sent via email. If you do not have access to a computer with internet, please contact the ACEC Helpdesk and they can assist you with other means of study and communication. Students will also need access to a printer/scanner; as well as Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player software to enable distance learning.
